Radio Playwriting Competition to Win £2,200, a Trip to London

Are you an avid scriptwriter? Or do you just like to write plays and stories? Well, you can win a huge prize.

The 2018 International Radio Playwriting Competition is the place where you can show your talent and have your playwright broadcasted on the BBC World Service radio.

If you are 18 or over of age and live outside of UK, doesn’t matter if you are experienced or new, you can enter. Last year’s winners included a Canadian writer who had never written a play before and a Brazilian writer who’d never written for radio. Find out more about last year’s winners here.

How to enter?

The competition is open from 3 October 2017 to 31 January 2018. 

All you need to do is send a script for a 53-minute radio play with up to 6 central characters and a synopsis which outlines your play. You can complete your complete and submit your application here.

You need to be either have English as your first language or English as your second language. Because winners’ plays will be broadcast on BBC World Service.

What if you win?




There are total three first prizes:

  • Two first prizes for the best radio plays.
  • There’s the Georgi Markov prize – for the most promising script, this prize gives the winner a chance to come to London for two weeks and work alongside BBC Radio Drama and with BBC World Service journalists.

If you win, your playwright will get heard by a huge audience of 77 million people around the world!
